In Linux:
* Edit → Preferences → Advanced → Config Editor
* Set mail.check_all_imap_folders_for_new to true. And that should do the trick.

inI am not completely satisfied with the performance of audio of Ubuntu. I still see a glitch here & there. The following components help me to manage the Audio system of Ubuntu in a more advanced & manipulative way:
* GNome Alsa Mixer – sudo apt-get install gnome-alsamixer
* Pulse Dev Chooser – sudo apt-get install padevchooser
The Gnome Alsa Mixer helps you select the Input.Output device for recording or playback.

inI’m surprised & left shocked with MPlayer’s volume each time I started it. Hence I wanted to set a default volume for MPlayer in Linux/Ubuntu. This is a short guide how you do it.
$sudo gedit ~/.mplayer/config
#Add the following line:
volume=’xx’
#Save the file
Now your mplayer should start with the default volume level you set. I set it up to 5 which is moderate for normal hearing. I haven’t tried but you can try also the below options:
af=volume=10:1
The af flag alters the hardware volume. If this doesn’t work, you can try specifying the software mixer, and altering the software volume with the options:
softvol=yes
softvol-max=1000
You can also start your mplayer in the usual fashion with the ‘af’ flag:
mplayer -af volume=10:1
where the value 10 means the sound is amplified by 10dB

inIt was initially a tough decision for me to move from Windows to Ubuntu..actually a no-way out situation. I had been finding ways to avoid Linux for long for a whole lot of reasons which seemed to be not so right after the move.
I am not an avid ‘keys’man..so let me keep it short. By the way I am still new to Ubuntu…so in case I conclude on something do not…no..it could actually not a conclusion.
My windows box setup is, I could say, a heaven as I nearly had each and every handy tool for sending an SMS to as complicated as Video encoding & decoding. So it was a nightmare for me to think of shifting to an OS where I will have to find out new piece of similar software & new ways to install them. Let me jot down here my Windows Apps list so that it makes you trust that this post is not an exaggeration.
Apps that are available on Ubuntu too:
7-Zip [7zip is available for Ubuntu as well]
SUPER – Video Encoder [ “Mencoder” on Ubuntu]
Texter – Repetitive text handler [Autokey on Ubuntu]
iTunes, Winamp with ml_ipod [IPOD Managers] – Nothing has proved effective like these on Ubuntu.
Apps that tempt me to fall back to Windows:
Internet Explorer – For some reason has become indispensible at least for testing software related to my job.
The KMPlayer – Haven’t seen any player beating this so far!! I wouldn’t even want anybody say VLC. I totally miss this in Ubuntu. Yeah right..tried it on Wine with disappointing results.
Yahoo Messenger – Linux Alternatives turned out to just dispense the basic functionalities neglecting other good features like Buddy BUZZ, Embed video, photos in chat windows, etc
Ken Rename – Of course Linux can handle renaming, but this one has proved to be a breeze to use.
Microsoft Outlook – Still holds on to a large market share purely due to the Exchange server’s territory over the world.
Dziobas Rar Player – Plays videos embedded within .rar files using mplayer as a backend without unzipping the file. The torrent guys would have known what am I talking about by now!!
Rainmeter – Haven’t searched for an equivalent on Linux but Compiz gives a good competition with its special effects.
Neutral [Run both on Windows/Linux]
Wootalyzer – Finds deals from woot.com
TagScanner – Tag/Edit your .mp3s’
TeamViewer – Remote Support tool for techie guys
JDownloader v0.5.533 – One-click host download tool
Notepad++ – Play around with text files like never before!!
Google gadgets – Means something because of the 160by2.com SMS gadget. I type SMS’s on the fly to my buddies.
In case some hard-core Linux fan has already started commenting about this….I wish you guys read the Title. I will have to come back & write again about the pros/cons of both Linux/Windows could be. Till then..will be experimenting..
